A lot of what gets called energy work I find harmful and grifty. I also can’t stand that the people who talk most about energetics, something so helpful, tend to be the same people who disparage anything they label “traditional” as a full-time job.

You know the crowd. Marriage is a jail, and organized religion is trash. Haters. Cancel culture. Victims.

When people take over important ideas and make them sound niche and counter culture it actually gate keeps them.

While I might struggle with the association, a few ideas from the modern spiritual movement have held up for me over years and through a lot of different states of mind, mostly because they turn out to have old roots. I am going to attempt a series here on those.

One is the idea of coiling and uncoiling your energy.

It shows up in most ancient religious texts in one form or another.

No, that creepy-sexy yoga teacher didn’t invent it.
